Position:                    Portfolio Analyst: Fixed Income

Department:            Investments Department

Reports to:                Portfolio Manager: Fixed Income

 

Purpose of the Position:

  • To provide analytical and administrative support to the Portfolio Manager. Fixed income in the management of the Fund’s internally managed fixed income portfolios.

 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Conducting fixed income markets and credit research, collecting, and analyzing financial and market data
  • Maintaining investment models and databases, assisting with portfolio monitoring and trading activities.
  • Preparing reports and investment analyses that support informed investment decision-making, portfolio performance, and risk management
  • Assist the team with preparing material for the monthly strategic meetings that help form team views on the market and collective investment strategies.
  • Assist and serve as first level of monitoring the Fund’s liquidity position and cash flow requirements and provide regular updates to the Portfolio Manager for efficient decision making.
  • Assist the Portfolio Manager to acquire new investments in the appropriate buckets of the portfolio and appropriate size in line with the portfolio mandate
  • Competently deal and trade in approved debts instruments and with approved counter parties and issuers, within prescribed limits.
  • Assist Portfolio Manager in preparing monthly, quarterly and ad hoc portfolio reports.
  • Monitor fixed income market developments, interest rate movements, credit events, and economic trends affecting the Fund’s portfolios
  • Assist Portfolio Manager in executing forex transactions for the Fund to ensure that the quotes received from the bank are within acceptable ranges from where it trades at that point.
  • Maintain and update portfolio management systems, pricing models and databases
  • Assist the Portfolio Manager with the review of key documentation that pertains to the Treasury unit.
  • Keep up to date with financial market developments, relevant developments on a national and international level and propose innovations accordingly.

 

Job-related qualifications and experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in commerce/financial/economics/business science, NQF Level 7
  • 2-3 years in the banking, investments, or portfolio management environment with at least (1) one-year experience in fixed income and/or a financial analyst environment.

Special Requirements

  • CFA level 1 candidate or ACI dealing certificate will be an added advantage

 

The incumbent should have the following knowledge, skills and Attributes:

Knowledge of:

Good understanding of the Namibian, regional and global fixed income market, financial statement analysis and modelling, pricing and valuation of fixed interest securities, general understanding of the GIPF mandate, national development plan which dictates the government borrowing plan, local, regional, and global macro-economic factors driving asset prices, pension fund legislation and relevant systems for the execution of investments.

Skills:
